Tips for Sewing DIY Woodland Animal Finger Puppets

This set includes seven finger puppets, each representing a different woodland animal. The animals included are a fox, squirrel, bear, owl, mole, hedgehog, and frog. With this set, kids can explore the diverse wildlife of the woodland.

Tips for Sewing with Felt

TIP for holding pieces in place for sewing: Felt pieces can be pinned to the body shape to hold them in place until they are stitched.

Another option is to place a tiny dab of instant dry fabric glue on the reverse side of felt shapes and position them on the puppet’s body. I use Beacon Fabri-Tac glue for this woodland animal finger puppet craft.

How to Make Woodland Animal Finger Puppets

1. Gather materials and print the free templates:

   • Small (embroidery) scissors (my favorite ones are KAI 5 1/2 inch embroidery scissors or KAI 6 1/3 inch patchwork scissors)

   • Embroidery floss (try DMC embroidery floss)

   • Embroidery needle - Clover Embroidery needle size 3-9

   • Glue or pins (optional - to help you hold felt pieces before sewing)

2. Use the free template to cut out all felt shapes from felt.

3. Follow the instructions to hand sew owl, bear, hedgehog, squirrel, fox, mole, and frog puppets:
