Materials & Supplies for Family Finger Puppets

• Family Finger Puppet Free Printable Template - to download the file, subscribe to the FunClothCrafts newsletter. You will find a password to the subscriber's Free Downloads Vault in the newsletter.

• Felt scraps (find great felt at Benzie Design or find more buying options in the Types of Felt section of How to Sew Felt blog post): felt colors based on your choice (I used ivory, brown, blond, pink, white, blue, orange, red hair color)

• Small or embroidery scissors (KAI 5 1/2 inch Embroidery Scissors or Fiskars Stitchers Scissors No. 5 are the ones I use)

• A glue that works on felt (Beacon Fabri-Tac glue or, if working with kids, Aleene’s Tacky Glue)

• Permanent fabric market (I have good experience with Pentel Gel Roller for Fabric)

Family Finger Puppets Materials and Supplies

How to Make No Sew Family Finger Puppets

Let's start creating easy and simple, no sew family finger puppets. This finger puppet set includes five family characters: daddy, mommy, brother, sister, and baby puppets. You'll need to print the finger puppet family template. Once you have your template, follow the steps below to create your felt finger puppets.

1. Use the free family finger puppet template to cut out all pattern pieces from felt. Visit the section above to learn how to download the free felt pattern.

2. Trace the eyes, nose, and mouth onto the front body shape. I made little holes with a needle on the lines and traced dots through the holes using a pencil.

3. Draw the mouse, nose, and eyes with a black permanent textile marker.

   Tip: You could use self-adhesive googly eyes instead of drawing the eyes. I would only opt for this option if older kids use the finger puppet.

4. Following the template, glue all felt pieces to the body shapes. You need to glue the clothes first and then the hair. If the clothes are made of two pieces (upper and lower), I start with the lower one. I glue below 2/3 of the shape. Then, I position and glue the upper piece (which is going to be partially covered with the below piece). I finish by gluing the remaining part of the lower piece, which covers slightly the upper piece.

5. Place the brother finger puppet’s front and back together and join the pieces with glue close to the edge. Allow the glue to dry completely before using the finger puppets. When using Aleene’s tacky glue, wait about 4 hours.

Step 2 - Trace the face lines onto the finger puppet body shape

Step 3 - Outline eyes, nose and mouth with black textile permanent marker

Step 4 - Following the template, glue all felt pieces to the body shapes

Step 5 - Join the front and back body piece with glue
