Instructions for Ribbon Candy Ornaments

Follow this tutorial's easy steps and photos, and learn how to make the felt ribbon candy ornaments. There is no need for a pattern here, it's so simple.

  1. Cut long felt stripes, 12 inches (30 cm) long and 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide. You could cut longer stripes if you have longer felt pieces; I only had 12-inch felt sheets.

  2. Layer two stripes of felt on top of each other. You could also opt for three felt layers.

  3. Starting at the beginning of the stripe and using the pencil and ruler, mark 1/2-inch and then every inch in the middle of the stripe. That’s for the longer ribbon candy ornaments. For the shorter ones, I did 3/4-inch and then 1 and 1/2-inch marks.

  4. Thread an embroidery needle with embroidery floss and tie a knot at the end. Push the needle through from the unmarked side of the strip to the marked side at the bottom marking.

  5. At this point, you can thread a bead and enter at the next mark or just simply enter at the next mark (without beads). Continue with the next stitch and repeat the steps until the last mark.

  6. Pull the embroidery floss and adjust the strip folds so they are wavy. Then, enter the needle back in the felt and tie a knot at the top of the ornament. Make sure that you hold it rather tight so that the ornament doesn't unfold if the knot is made too far up. I tie another knot around the floss just below the top layer of felt and hide the remaining embroidery floss in the bead.

  7. Trim the ends to be equal and glue them together.

Now that you have made your adorable ribbon candies from felt, how many more will you make? I made 4 for this tutorial.

Step 1 - Cut felt strips 1-inch wide

Steps 2 and 3 - Layer the felt strips and make marks in the 1-inch distance

Steps 4 and 5 - Thread the embroidery needle, make a knot, and enter the marks like a running stitch with a bead in every step.

Steps 6 and 7 - Pull the embroidery floss, re-enter the top felt layer, hold the waves tight, and make a knot on top. Make another knot just below the top layer of felt and hide the remaining thread in the top bead.
